AUS and NZ / Motorhome / Campervan FAQ's

We have never rented a motorhome before. Will we know what to do?
At departure you will be given a 30-60 minute familiarization tour and learn how to hook it up and operate appliances and be shown a video at most rental centers.

How long do the batteries last?
Most vehicles have a dual battery system. This means that the engine battery is separate from the battery system used for appliances such as the fridge, lights and water pump. The appliance battery system will last approximately 12 hours when fully charged. The battery charges as you drive the vehicle. Should you flatten one of the batteries, you can still start the engine and drive the vehicle. All vehicles an of course be plugged into electricity at campsites/caravan parks. When you plug in, all appliances etc automatically run off electricity instead of the battery. Note that some items such as microwaves adn rear airconditioning only run off electricity.

Should we choose the additional insurance options?
If you dont have travel insurance that covers the excess on the motorhome and if you dont take out the optional insurances, you run the risk of being held responsible for $5000 worth of damage. For Australian and New Zealand clients it is worth noting that travel insurance can be purchased that will cover the excess on the vehicle. Check your policy for 'rental vehicle insurance excess'. However, if you do take up this option, note that you will have to leave a $5000 deposit by credit card and if you have to make a claim, the rental company will keep your deposit and you then make a claim on your travel insurance. Please check the details of your policy carefully - as policies vary between companies. We are happy to offer Australian clients a discount on travel insurance when they book their motorhome with us. Unfortunately, we can only sell insurance to residents of Australia.

Is there a limit to how many people can ride in the motorhome?
In Australia & New Zealand it is compulsory that all passengers wear seatbelts.

What else should we know?
In both Australian and New Zealand, we drive on the left hand side of the road.
Speed limits are enforced.
There are some roads on which motorhomes can not travel in both both Australia & New Zealand

Can we leave our luggage at the rental location?

If you are returning to the same depot - you can. However, just check with us first. This would be at your own risk.

Where can we find information to pre-plan our overnight stops in caravan parks etc?
In New Zealand have a look at: Top 10 Holiday Parks and Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand
In Australia have a look at: Family Parks , Big4 Holiday Parks , Top Tourist Parks
You will be given a welcome pack which includes a discount card for campsites.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email. We will get back to you within 24 hours at the very latest.
