2017 - 2018 Flex Rates
Valid from 01 April 2017 - 31 March 2018

Flex Rates give you the very best available price for the motorhome you want to rent. If you book early and there are plenty of motorhomes available, you will pay a much lower price. If you book closer to departure date or book for a high demand period then the rate will be higher.
 
However, once booked, should you need to amend the dates, the prevailing rates will apply. We get advised of new flex rates each week. Therefore each quote only valid until the end of each week.

Rates are calculated per calendar day
• The Flex rate for the entire duration of the rental is determined by the date of pick-up, location and date of booking. The daily rate will not change within one booking.
• Amendments prior to the vehicle collection date will be re-calculated at the flex rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates and/or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to pick-up (days are being added on at the end of the rental with no change to the original pick up date), or the bonus pack is being added to or removed from the booking, the original flex rate, which applied at the time of the original booking, will apply.

* Goods and Services Tax (GST) - GST is a New Zealand Government imposed tax. GST is included in all Britz rates and is currently 15%. Britz reserves the right to amend GST upon Government intervention.
 
* Linen and bedding includes: pillow, pillowcase, duvet (doona), sheet and towel per person.
 
* Kitchen equipment includes: plates, bowls, cups, glasses, knives, forks, spoons, bottle/can opener, mixing bowls, colander, saucepans, frying pans, toaster, cooking utensils, cutting board, teapot, kettle and tea towels.
 
* General equipment includes: toilet chemicals, clothes pegs, dustpan / brush, broom, fire extinguisher, bucket, fresh water hose, coat hangers, matches, gas cylinder, floor safe (except Hitop).

All rentals 50 days or longer will have the added advantage of:
- Free Extra Linen per bed - Linen Exchange Service (exchange your linen and bedding at any Britz branch during your hire)
- Valet Service and Vehicle Safe Service Check (get your vehicle detailed at any Britz location; must be booked at least 48 hours in advance)
- LP Gas Bottle Exchange (exchange your LP Gas bottle at any Britz branch)

Britz All Inclusive Option
The Britz Bonus Pack for 2WD campervan rentals is NZD $55 per day (maximum charge of NZD $2,750 per
rental) and is in addition to the daily vehicle rate.

The Britz All Inclusive Option component includes:

  • the Liability Reduction 2 insurance supplement which eliminates the excess for insured damages*
  • One-Way fees if applicable
  • Road User Charge Recovery Fee
  • 1 Camping Chair per person
  • 1 Camping Table
  • First LP Gas Fill*
  • Snow Chains if required (these need to be reserved in advance with the booking)
  • Portable heater if required (these need to be reserved in advance with the booking)

* Liability Reduction Option 2 - This option reduces the excess for 2WD campervans from NZ $7500 to NIL.
 
 
* Pre-Purchase Gas Option (PGO) allows the customer to return the vehicle without the need for the gas bottle to be replenished. The gas bottle is used to operate the gas stove and to heat the hot water in vehicles with a hot water facility. This option can be purchased separately if the Bonus Pack has not been selected. See “additional products and services” for costs.
  

Road User Charge Recovery Fee
The Road User Charge Recovery Fee is included in the Britz All Inclusive Option. If the All Inclusive Option has not been selected the Road User Charge Recovery Fee will be calculated and collected on return of the vehicle based on the kilometres travelled during the hire.

The vehicle fee are per 100km as follows:

For any amounts, which are payable in NZD $ at the depot, the following sales taxes are charged on top: 15% GST. Britz reserves the right to amend the Road User Charge Recovery Fee in response to changes in Government Road User Charges.

One Way Rentals
A One-Way fee of NZD $100 applies where pick up originates from Auckland and returns to Christchurch or Queenstown, where pick up is between 1 April 2017 and 30 September 2017.

A One-Way fee of NZD $300 applies where pick up originates from Auckland and returns to Christchurch or Queenstown, where pick up is between 1 October 2017 and 31 March 2018.

A One-Way fee of NZD $50 applies where pick up originates from Christchurch to Queenstown or Vice Versa , where pick up is between 1 April 2017 and 30 September 2017.

A One-Way fee of NZD $75 applies where pick up originates from Christchurch or Queenstown to Auckland , where pick up is between 1 October 2017 and 31 March 2018.

A One-Way fee of NZD $150 applies where pick up originates from Christchurch or Queenstown to Auckland , where pick up is between 1 October 2017 and 31 March 2018

Queenstown Fees
An additional location fee of NZD $95 applies to all campervans picked up or dropped off in Queenstown (though if the pick up and drop off both occur in Queenstown, only one location fee will apply). This is in addition to the one-way fee if applicable.

* Britz also offers bikes for hire from their Auckland and Christchurch depots. You can choose between Hybrid and Moutain Bikes, offered by their partner Natural High. Bikes can only be hired in conjunction with bike racks and are not available with the Hitop and Voyager campervans. Bike racks on the Trailblazer and Venturer campervans take a maximum of 2 bikes, while racks on the Explorer and Frontier motorhomes can accommodate up to 3 bikes.

Bikes and bike racks must be requested with your booking, but are payable locally. The following fees apply:
- Bike rack: NZD $50 per hire - Bikes: NZD $23 per day for hires of up to 13 days
- NZD $19 per day for hires between 14 and 20 days
- NZD $16 per day for hires of 21 days or more.

Bike rates include helmets, flat pedals, bottle cages, rear rack, puncture repair kits, pump, spare tube, tyre levers, multi-tool and bike lock as well as 0800 road service. A bond of NZD $400 per bike will be taken as a credit card imprint when you pick up the bikes. For further details on bike hire, please contact our reservations staff.
Britz also offers Tourism Radio as a complimentary service. Tourism Radio is a GPS driven tour guide, which tells you all about the area you are travelling through and allows you to pre-book popular attractions. Please see www.tourismradio.co.nz for more information. The units can be installed in minutes and are simple to operate. Tourism Radio must be requested with your booking.

Charges for additional products and services will be charged per hire.

Outdoor table and chairs, baby/booster seats (if required), pre-purchase gas option, portable heater (if required) and snow chains (if required) are included in the Britz All Inclusive Option.

Baby / Booster Seats
All children aged under seven years must travel in an approved child restraint.

  • Children aged from birth to approximately four years (birth-18kg) should use a child seat
  • Children aged between four and seven years (15-36kg) should use a booster seat
  • The following vehicles are able to accommodate more than two child seats Up to 4 Seats - 6 Berth Alpha
  • All child restraints must comply with the standards approved in New Zealand. We strongly recommend child restraints are pre booked

WHERE YOUR CHILD CAN SIT

  • Front seats in all vehicles are not fitted with anchor points and cannot accommodate children under seven years in any case.
  • Child or booster seats are not permitted in the rear facing seats of any six berth vehicle.
  • We recommend that children are kept rear facing until approximately two years of age.

For Your Protection– Vehicle Excess
New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. Britz does not accept any liability for personal injuries sustained during the rental, nor for any loss or damage to personal belongings. Britz strongly recommends the Customer takes out personal travel insurance to cover any injury or loss.

# In the USA an excess is referred to as the “deductible”.

The renter is liable for an excess of up to NZD $7,500 per incident for damage in the event of an accident. This applies to any material damage to third-party property or the rental vehicle, regardless of who causes the accident. This liability remains in place no matter what until a third party admits liability and makes a payment to cover costs incurred.

In New Zealand it is not compulsory for the locals to have third-party insurance. In the event of an accident or if someone flees the scene the renter is liable for any damage caused within the limit of the excess. You can reduce the level of the excess or waive it as follows:

The All Inclusive Option can be booked with us in advance (see 'Inclusions' above - only available in advance, not at the depot). This option includes the 'Liability Reduction Option 2' insurance supplement.

Alternatively, you have the option of purchasing the following insurance options locally - each with varying excess levels, as outlined below.

Liability Reduction Option
New Zealand legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. Britz does not accept any liability for personal injuries sustained during the rental, nor for any loss or damage to any personal belongings or property of the customer (or any person or entity related to the customer). Britz strongly recommend that all people travelling in New Zealand take out personal travel insurance. In the USA a liability is referred to as the "deductible".

All vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a third party. The customer is responsible for the first $5,000 ("the liability") for the HiTop and the Voyager campervans and $7,500 ("the liability") for all other campervans of the cost of any damage to third party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident (does not include single vehicle roll over), windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the 'Exclusions'. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is being repaired. In addition to these costs, an administration fee of $60 may apply, per claim. The liability applies in respect of each claim, not rental. The $5,000 or $7,500 liability can be reduced by purchasing the Liability Reduction Option or the Britz Inclusive Pack.

Vehicle Cost per day 2WD NZD $45 (max charge NZD $2,250) - Liability reduced to NIL

When the Liability Reduction Option has been purchased, the hirer will have no liability at all with the exception of the 'exclusions'.

The maximum public liability is $20,000,000, sub limits may apply. Please note that the maximum public liability may change during the course of the year for which these terms apply.


Liability Deposit
If the Liability Reduction Option or the Britz Inclusive Pack is not taken, the customer must pay the Liability Deposit. The Liability Deposit is $5,000 or $7,500 and is applicable regardless if the hirer has purchased private travel insurance.

The customer must provide a valid credit card to pay the Liability Deposit and the amount will be debited to the customer's credit card on the day of vehicle collection. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the Liability Deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. Any type of pre-paid travel card is not acceptable as a means to provide a Liability Deposit.

The Liability Deposit is subject to a 2% credit card administration fee in addition to the Liability Deposit amount when the credit card used is either a Visa or MasterCard, or 4.6% when the credit card used is American Express. The credit card administration fees are subject to change.

The Liability Deposit is fully refundable, including the credit card surcharge, if the card used to provide the Liability Deposit is a Visa or MasterCard credit card, provided the Vehicle is returned undamaged. Britz recommend that customers use a Visa or MasterCard credit card for the Liability Deposit, as the credit card administration fee that applies when using American Express is not refundable.

Tyre and Windscreen Damage
Where a nil excess is present unlimited windscreen and tyres will be covered for accidental damage.

Additional Protection Coverage
All Vehicles - NZD $79 per rental
Where the hirer purchases Additional Protection Coverage the cost of damage resulting from a single
vehicle roll over will be covered.

Additional Protection Coverage can only be purchased in conjunction with Liability Reduction Option 2 or
the Bonus Pack.

BRITZ STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TAKE THE ALL INCLUSIVE OPTION WITH ADDITIONAL PROTECTION COVERAGE FOR TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND.

Exclusions
All liability cover will be made void if any of the following ‘Exclusions’ are breached:

1. Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle - except where Excess Reduction 2 or the Bonus Pack has been purchased (does not cover single vehicle roll over).
2. Damage caused to the vehicle because total load (kg) has exceeded recommended load as stated in vehicle manual. Vehicles are not to be used for the purpose of transporting and haulage of goods other than what might be reasonably expected of a leisure rental.
3. Any water related damage which includes, but is not limited to:
a) any vehicle submersion
b) creek or river crossing
c) driving through flooded areas
d) beach driving
4. Personal belongings. Britz recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they
have insurance to cover for the loss/damage of personal belongings.
5. Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle).
6. A single vehicle roll over occurs. except where Additional Protection Coverage has been purchased.
7. Damage caused to the vehicle by snow chains.
8. Any damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
9. The Customer will be liable for any costs associated with the incorrect use of fuel or the use of Bio- Diesel which should not be used (fuel being diesel or petrol), or water or other contamination of fuel.
10. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle, which may include, but is not limited to a vehicle that has become bogged, submerged, caught, trapped, stuck or restricted in anyway and/or has been abandoned.
11. The cost to replace keys, which have been lost or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
12. The vehicle rented may only be used to carry the maximum number of passengers as dictated by the
vehicle type. If more passengers are carried than what is allowed Britz does not accept any liability.
13. Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or probationary licence.

Vehicle Security Deposit
• For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide a vehicle security deposit. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicle security deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. Any type of pre-paid travel card is not acceptable as a means to provide a vehicle security deposit. Visa and MasterCard debit cards are acceptable provided the card is being used as a credit card.

Debited vehicle security deposits are subject to a 2% credit card administration fee in addition to the vehicle
security deposit amount when the credit card used is either a Visa or Master Card or 4.6% for American
Express.
 
•If the Customer does not take Liability Reduction Options, the Vehicle Security Deposit is NZD $7,500 payable by the Customer’s credit card only. The amount will be debited to the hirer's credit card when the vehicle is collected. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
 
If Liability Reduction Option 1 has been taken the Vehicle Security Deposit is NZD $2,500 The NZD $2,500 is debited to the hirer's credit card when the vehicle is collected. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
 
If Liability Reduction Option 2 is selected or the package booked is the All Inclusive Option, the Vehicle Security Deposit is NZD $250

The NZD $250 is taken as an imprint to the hirer's credit card when the vehicle is collected. An imprint simply records a figure against the hirer's credit card of NZD $250 that Britz can then debit if required.
 
• The vehicle security deposit is fully refundable, including the credit card surcharge if the card used to provide the vehicle security deposit is a Visa or MasterCard provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, in a clean condition and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol or diesel) and gas bottle. Except where the customer has purchased PGO (PGO is included in the Britz Bonus Pack) and/or Pre Purchase Fuel (PPF), failure to return the vehicle with full petrol or diesel tanks and/or a full LPG bottle will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.
 
• Britz reserves the right to retain a NZD $250 soiling fee if the Vehicle is not returned in a clean condition. This includes smoking related cleaning, as smoking is not permitted in the vehicle. The toilet and wastewater tank (if applicable) must be emptied prior to the return of the Vehicle, or an additional NZD $125 soiling fee will be retained.

FOR SECURITY PURPOSES, ONLY THE HIRERS CREDIT CARD CAN BE USED FOR VEHICLE SECURITY
DEPOSITS.

Credit Cards
The credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit cards are Visa Card, MasterCard and American Express. A non-refundable 2% administration fee will apply to all Visa and masterCard transactions or 4.6% for American Express. Credit card administration fees also apply to debited security bonds and only the hirer’s credit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the security
bond.


Calculation Errors
Britz will not honour calculation errors. Should a calculation error occur Britz will charge for the shortfall.

Licence
A current and full (non-probationary) motor vehicle driver's licence is required and must be produced upon vehicle collection. Should a foreign licence be in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by an accredited English translation. The translation must be provided by a NZ Transport Agency, authorised translation service or a diplomatic representative at a high commission, embassy or consulate, or the authority that issued your overseas licence (an International Driving Permit may be acceptable as a translation if an English).

Age Restrictions
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over.

Rental Duration

  • Minimum hire period:
    - 5 days (providing the pick up & drop off locations are the same)
    - 10 days for when a vehicle is collected from the North Island and being returned to the South Island or vice versa and with a pick-up date between 01 October and 31 March.
    - 10 days for pick-ups between 20 December and 10 January.
     
  • Maximum hire period:
    - 100 days For hires over 100 days special prices, terms and conditions apply and these needs to be requested. This also applies to multiple hires that add up to more than 100 days.

Road Restrictions
2WD vehicles are permitted for use on sealed public roads only, with the exception of camping ground access roads. There is no insurance cover if you drive on unsealed terrain.

It is prohibited to drive on the following roads/routes: Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), roads north of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula), Ball Hut Road (Mt. Cook), Skippers Road (Queenstown) an Bluff Road between Kuaotunu and Matarangi.

Britz reserves the right to limit the areas where the rental vehicles can be driven on the basis of weather or road conditions.

Change of Drop-Off Destination
If the customer wishes to change the drop-off destination, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations or Scheduling departments. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to NZ $750 may apply, which will be notified to you at time of approval and is required to be paid immediately via credit card. The fee may apply in all cases irrespective of the reason for location change.

Multiple Rentals
Should a Customer have more than one consecutive rental, the bookings can be combined to qualify for longer-term hire discounts off the vehicle rate. Consecutive campervan hire in South Africa for Britz, maui and KEA; Australia for Britz, maui, KEA and Mighty and in New Zealand for Britz, maui, KEA, United, Alpha and Mighty can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3-month period.

Rental Extension
If the Customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from reservations or any of the Britz branches. The Rental extension is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. The rate charged may not reflect the original rate booked. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of NZ $150 in addition to the daily rental rate.
 
Infringements and Administration Fees
Britz reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, toll way or parking fines and/or vehicle damage including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. In addition to these costs, Britz reserve the right to charge for associated administration costs for processing the fines (irrespective of excess) and/or all insurance claims in the event of the customer not having a NIL excess. In addition to the costs associated per fine and/or insurance claim, an administration fee of NZD $60 will be applicable.

On Road Assistance
Britz provides 24 hour on-road assistance support. Please contact Britz on free call: 0800 788 558.

Any problems associated with the Vehicle including equipment failure, must be reported to Britz within 24 hours in order to give Britz the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so may compromise any claims for compensation. Subject to clause 25, Britz reserves the right not to accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.

The on-road assistance will cover, free of charge, any technical malfunction of the vehicle arising from a manufacturing or material fault that directly renders the part concerned unfit for operation during the Rental Period and for which a claim is not excluded. Claims will be excluded, and the Customer will be charged for any on-road assistance, where the malfunction was caused by the Customer's actions or omissions, or where the fault is not covered by the Vehicle manufacturer's guarantee. This will include any on-road assistance for the following:
(a) The vehicle running out of fuel
(b) The keys being locked inside the vehicle or lost
(c) Flat batteries caused by incorrect usage of the batteries and or incorrect usage of any equipment that requires the batteries to operate
(d) A breakdown caused by damage caused in an accident
(e) A breakdown caused by willful neglect

All on-road assistance required or managed due to circumstances covered (above a - e), or otherwise as a result of the Customer's actions or omissions, will incur a minimum charge of NZD $173 plus any additional charges provided by third party assistance.

Maintenance & Repairs
Britz will reimburse the Customer for expenditure up to NZD $200 reasonably incurred in rectifying any mechanical failure of the Vehicle. For repairs costing over NZD $200, Britz will need to be informed and confirm the repair in advance. Repairs will be approved and reimbursement, where applicable, will be granted provided the Customer was not responsible for the damage. In all cases, receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.

Subject to the terms of the Liability Reduction Option purchased, the Customer will pay for the cost of repairing or replacing tyres damaged during the Rental Period except if the tyre is defective and is returned by the Customer to Britz for inspection and is subject to a warranty claim on the manufacturer.

Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.
Daily from 08:00 to 16:30 hours. Britz requests that clients collecting or returning their vehicle to be in the ofice by 3:30pm

Open all public holidays except Christmas Day the 25 of December, when all Britz branches are closed.
Please note: NZD $50 public holiday surcharge for picking up and/or dropping off on the following National public holidays.

The surcharge is payable locally.

The vehicle must be returned with a clean interior, otherwise a fee of NZD $250 will be charged. This includes smoking related cleaning, as smoking is not permitted in the vehicle. Waste water tanks and toilets must be emptied prior to drop-off, otherwise another fee of NZD $125 will apply.

Transfers
Britz provides a free transfer service with the 'Airbus' between the airport and the Auckland and Christchurch depots. The Queenstown depot is located approximately 500 m from the airport terminal. A free shuttle will be provided. The rental company does not reimburse the costs for transfers between hotels and the rental depots.

Vehicle Availability
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Britz will endeavour to supply the vehicle category selected, however should the Vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Britz reserve the right to substitute an alternative Vehicle without prior notification. The alternative vehicle shall be as close a substitute for the booked Vehicle as possible. Britz will reasonably determine what, if any, refund may be warranted if a Vehicle substitution is required.

Should the Customer decide to voluntarily downgrade their vehicle type from that booked, they will not be entitled to a refund.

Pets
Pets or other animals are not permitted inside the rental vehicles, with the exception of registered guide dogs for visually impaired passengers.

Shortening of Rental Period
If a renter shortens their hire period by more than a week - it may be treated as a cancellation of the whole booking and a re-booking. This depends on when the amendment takes place and how many days of hire are being cancelled. Please ensure you always have travel insurance in place.
 
Cancellation Policy
• If cancelled up to 91 days prior to pick-up - No Fee
• If cancelled up to 90 to 22 days prior to pick-up - 10% of rental fee.
• If cancelled from 21 to 7 days prior to pick-up - 20% of Rental Rates
• If cancelled 6 to 1 days prior to pick-up - 50% of Rental Rates
• If cancelled on day of pick up or No-Show - 100% of Rental Rates
• If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever there is no refund available for the unused days.

Special Conditions :
For all rentals with a collection date between 01 June 2017 and 08 July 2017 the following special conditions apply:

  • 10% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm booking
  • Full payment is required 90 days prior to pick up
  • If cancelled up to 91 days prior to pick-up - 10% of Rental
  • If cancelled from 90 to 1 day prior to pick-up - 100% of Rental

Booking Amendments
All amendments to bookings are subject to availability of vehicle and/or package. Different rates may apply based on the amendment made. Amendments prior to the vehicle collection date will be re-calculated at the flex rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates and/or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to the vehicle collection date (days are being added on at the end of the rental with no change to the original pick up date), or the Bonus Pack is being added to or removed from the booking, the original flex rate, which applied at the time of the original booking, will apply.

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and/or
bank transaction fees there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially
charged. Britz does not accept any liability for variances up or down.
