2017 - 2018 Flex Rates
Valid from 01 April 2017 - 31 March 2018

Flex Rates give you the very best available price for the motorhome you want to rent. If you book early and there are plenty of motorhomes available, you will pay a much lower price. If you book closer to departure date or book for a high demand period then the rate will be higher.
 
However, once booked, should you need to amend the dates, the prevailing rates will apply. We get advised of new flex rates each week. Therefore each quote only valid until the end of each week.

Available Vehicles for Hire

Rates are calculated per calendar day.

The flex rate for the entire duration of the rental is determined by the date of pick-up, location and date of booking. The daily rate will not change within one booking.

Amendments prior to the vehicle collection date will be re-calculated at the flex rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates and/or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to pick-up (days are being added on at the end of the rental with no change to the original pick up date), or the bonus pack is being added
to or removed from the booking, the original flex rate, which applied at the time of the original booking, will apply.

    * Goods and Services Tax (GST) - GST is an Australian Federal Government imposed tax. GST is included in all Maui rates and is currently 10%. Britz reserves the right to amend GST upon Government intervention.

    * Administration fee - A surcharge of 3% of the total cost will be levied to cover state government taxes, vehicle registration recovery, duties and administration costs. This fee is included in the daily vehicle rate.

    * Linen and bedding includes pillow, pillowcase, sleeping bag or duvet (doona), sheet and towel per person.

    *Valet Service - customers on hires of 21 days or more in length (does not include multiple hires) may visit any maui location while on hire to have their vehicle detailed and oil and water checked. Please call ahead by a minimum of 48 hours for this service.

    * Apartment Style Kitchen equipment includes - includes quality plates, bowls and cups. Wine and drinking glasses. Superior cutlery and cooking utensils. Bottle/can opener, mixing bowls, colander, saucepans, frying pans, chopping board, gas kettle, electric jug, coffee plunger, toaster and tea towel.

    *Freshly laundered linen and bedding includes - includes pillow, pillowcase, sheet and towel per person and one doona (duvet) per bed. maui customers may also exchange their linen and bedding during their rental at any maui branch.

    *General equipment includes -
    includes pegs, dustpan/brush, fire extinguisher, bucket/hose, broom, matches, ice cube tray, clothes hangers, toilet chemicals and floor safe in all vehicles. General equipment also includes starter items that are designed to provide the customer with some basic requirements as might be needed at the beginning of a hire, before the customer has had an opportunity to visit a supermarket and includes dishwashing detergent, disposable gloves, mosquito coils, bin liner, toilet roll, sponge, scourer, soap, tissues and conditioning shampoo sachets.

Maui Premium Package:
The Maui Premium Package for 2WD rentals is AUD $65 per day (maximum AUD $3,250 per rental) and is payable in addition to the daily rental rate.

  • Taxi fare from closest airport to maui branch upon vehicle collection only. Receipt must be presented for re-imbursement
  • Pre-purchase Gas (customers can return the vehicle without refilling the gas bottle. Gas is used for cooking and heating water in vehicles with a hot water facility)
  • Picnic table and chairs (chairs per person travelling)
  • Baby / Booster seat - on request (cannot be fitted in some vehicle categories)
  • LPG Gas Bottle exchange***
  • MP3 connectivity
  • Express Key Return**

* Liability Reduction Option : This option reduces the liability from AUD $7500 to NIL

* Pre-Purchase Gas (PGO) - allows the customer to return the vehicle without the need for the gas bottle to be replenished. The gas bottle is used to operate the gas stove, fridge (applicable to Forest only as model has 3 way fridge) and to heat the hot water in vehicles with a hot water facility. This option can be purchased separately if the maui Premium Package has not been selected. See "additional products and services" for costs.

*** LPG Gas Bottle Exchange - allows the customer to swap the LPG Gas bottle at any time at any of our branches.
** Express Key Return - maui customers with the maui Premium Package may simply return their keys to the counter when returning a vehicle without any need to do vehicle checks. This service only applies where no vehicle damage has occurred while on hire.

**** Vechicle Safe Service Check - customers may visit any maui location while on hire to have checks carried out on oil and water, visual brake pads, tyre and windscreen wiper blades. Please call ahead by a minimum of 48 hours for this service.

For Your Protection - Vehicles Liability:
Personal injury is covered in most cases through Registration Third Party insurance. Maui strongly recommends that all people travelling in Australia take out personal travel insurance.

All vehicles are insured for damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first AUD $7,500 ("the liability") of the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident (does not include single vehicle roll over), windscreen and tyre damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism with the exception of the 'exclusions'. This also includes the cost of the daily rental for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs.

The liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The liability will be refunded if maui is successful in recovering the cost of the damages from the Third Party. Please note that Third Party claims can take months to resolve. The liability applies in respect of each claim, not rental.

Please see the 'exclusions' section below, whereby all liability cover will be made void.

This AUD $7,500 liability can be reduced in most circumstances, by the purchase of Liability Reduction Option 1 or Liability Reduction Option 2 (note Liability Reduction Option 2 is included in the maui

Liability Reduction Option
Cost per day AUD $45 (max charge AUD $2,250) - Liability reduced to NIL When the Liability Reduction Option has been purchased, the hirer will not have to pay any liability at all for any damage to the vehicle or property of a Third Party with the exception of the 'exclusions'. This cover includes unlimited tyre and windscreen cover for accidental damage.

Note: The Liability Reduction Option is included in the maui Premium Package

Liability Deposit:
If the Liability Reduction Option or the maui Inclusive Pack is not taken, the customer must pay the Liability Deposit. The Liability Deposit is $7,500 and is applicable regardless if the hirer has purchased private travel insurance.

The customer must provide a valid credit card to pay the Liability Deposit and the amount will be debited to the customer's credit card on the day of vehicle collection. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the Liability Deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. Any type of pre-paid travel card is not acceptable as a means to provide a Liability Deposit.

The Liability Deposit is subject to a 2% credit card administration fee in addition to the Liability Deposit amount when the credit card used is either a Visa or MasterCard or 5.3% when the credit card used is American Express. The credit card administration fees are subject to change.

The Liability Deposit is fully refundable, including the credit card surcharge, if the card used to provide the Liability Deposit is a Visa or MasterCard credit card, provided the Vehicle is returned undamaged. maui recommend that customers use a Visa or MasterCard credit card for the Liability Deposit, as the credit card administration fee that applies when using American Express is not refundable.

Additional Protection Coverage
For all vehicles - Cost is AUD $99 per rental Where the hirer purchases Additional Protection Coverage the cost of damage resulting from a single vehicle roll over will be covered. Additional Protection Coverage can only be purchased in conjunction with Liability Reduction Option 2 or the maui Premium Package.

MAUI STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TAKE THE MAUI PREMIUM PACKAGE WITH ADDITIONAL PROTECTION COVERAGE FOR TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND.

Please see the 'exclusions' section below, whereby all liability cover will be made void.

EXCLUSIONS:
All insurance cover will be made void if any of the following 'Exclusions' are breached:

  • 1. Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle - except where the Liability Reduction Option or the maui Premium Package has been purchased. This does not cover single vehicle rollover except where Additional Protection Coverage has been purchased.
  • 2. Damage caused to the vehicle because total load (kg) has exceeded recommended load as stated in vehicle manual. Vehicles are not to be used for the purpose of transporting and haulage of goods other than what might be reasonably expected of a leisure rental.
  • 3. Any water related damage which includes, but is not limited to:
    a) any vehicle submersion
    b) creek or river crossing
    c) driving through flooded areas
    d) beach driving
  • 4.Personal belongings. Maui recommends the customer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out travel insurance to cover for the loss/damage of personal belongings.
  • 5. Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle). and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and negligence resulting in damage to the hired vehicle or third party vehicle/property.
  • 6. A single vehicle roll over occurs except where Additional Protection Coverage has been purchased.
  • 7. Damage caused to the vehicle due to the use of snow chains.
  • 8. Any damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • 9. The customer will be liable for any damage associated with the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol), this includes Bio-Diesel which should not be used, or water or other contamination of fuel.
  • 10. The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle, which may include, but is not limited to a vehicle that has become bogged, submerged, caught, trapped, stuck or restricted in anyway and/or has been abandoned.
  • 11. The cost to replace keys, which have been lost or stolen of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
  • 12. The vehicle rented may only be used to carry the maximum number of passengers as dictated by the vehicle type. If more passengers are carried than what is allowed Maui does not accept any liability.
  • 13. Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers that have a licence that has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or probationary licence.
  • 14. The customer has fitted accessories (as provided by maui or otherwise) to the vehicle incorrectly or otherwise in a manner which causes damage to the vehicle, the accessories or any other vehicle or property.
  • 15. Using the vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
  • 16. Any damage caused to the vehicle by hail, flood, fire, storm, cyclone or other natural disasters.

Vehicle Security Deposit:
Upon vehicle collection, a vehicle security deposit is required. The vehicle security deposit is applicable regardless if the hirer has purchased private travel insurance.

For security purposes, only a credit card can be used to provide a vehicle security deposit. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicle security deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle. Any type of pre-paid travel card is not acceptable as a means to provide a vehicle security deposit. Visa and MasterCard debit cards are acceptable provided the card is being used as a credit card. Debited vehicle security deposits are subject to a 2% credit card administration fee in addition to the vehicle security deposit amount when the credit card used is either a Visa or MasterCard and 4.6%, when the credit card used is American Express.

If the Liability Reduction Option is not selected, the vehicle security deposit is AUD $7,500 payable by credit card.

The AUD $7,500 is debited to the hirer's credit card when the vehicle is collected. For this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the amount does not exceed the hirer's daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.

If the Liability Reduction Option is selected or the package booked is the maui Premium Package the vehicle security deposit is AUD $250.

The AUD $250 is taken as an imprint to the hirer's credit card when the vehicle is collected. An imprint simply records a figure against the hirers credit card of AUD $250 that maui can then debit if required.

The vehicle security deposit is fully refundable including the credit card surcharge if the card used to provide the vehicle security deposit is a Visa or MasterCard, provided the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, in a clean condition and with full fuel tanks (fuel being petrol or diesel) and gas bottle. Except where the customer has purchased PGO (PGO is included in the maui Premium Package) and/or Pre Purchase Fuel (PPF), failure to return the vehicle with full petrol or diesel tanks and/or a full LPG bottle will result in refill charges, which will be advised upon return of the vehicle.

Maui reserves the right to retain an AU$250 cleaning fee if the vehicle is not returned in a clean condition. This includes smoking related cleaning, as smoking is not permitted in the vehicle. The toilet and waste water tank must be emptied prior to the return of the vehicle, or an additional AU$125 soiling fee will be retained.

FOR SECURITY PURPOSES, ONLY THE HIRERS CREDIT CARD CAN BE USED FOR VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSITS.

Exchange Rare / Currency Variations:
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations and/or bank transaction fees there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down.

Credit Cards:
The credit or debit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit and debit cards are Visa Card, MasterCard and American Express. A non-refundable 2% administration fee will apply to all Visa and MasterCard transactions and 4.6% to American Express. Credit card administration fees also apply to debited vehicle security deposits and only the hirer's credit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the vehicle security deposit.

Personal & Company Cheques:
Personal and company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time of pick-up. These must be received by Maui 14 working days prior to commencement of the hire/s.

Long Hire Rentals:
We love Long Hire Rentals! Contact us for the best quote for hires 50 days or longer and benefit from our Long Hire Super Service. All rentals 50 days or longer will have the added advantage of:

Licence and Age Restrictions:
A current and full motor vehicle driver's licence is required and must be produced upon vehicle collection. Should a foreign licence be in a language other then English it must be accompanied by a current international driving permit issued in the same country as the driver's licence was issued. An accredited English translation will be accepted in lieu of an international driving permit.

Age Restrictions:
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over.

A fee per extra driver, per hire applies. $1 per day (maximum charge per hire, per driver is $30)

Outdoor chairs and table, and the pre-purchase gas option are included in the maui Premium Package.

Rental Duration

  • Minimum and maximum rental periods apply and are subject to change.
  • Late pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the customer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
  • If a customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from maui (call 1300 363 800). The rental extension is subject to vehicle availability. The cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone on confirmation of the rental extension. The rate charged may not reflect the original rate booked. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee of $150 in addition to the daily rate.

 PEAK: Maui branches are open 7 days a week with the exception of Christmas Day (25 December) and Australia Day (26 January) when they are closed.
OFF PEAK: Maui branches are closed on Sundays during off peak months. The maui Alice Springs, Broome, Darwin and Hobart branches are closed during off peak months. See below for more information

Maui requests that clients collecting or returning their vehicle to be in the office by 1530 hours.

Road Restrictions:
Motorhomes can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads. The only exceptions to this are well-maintained access roads of less than twelve kilometres to recognised campgrounds and well-maintained, recognised roads on Kangaroo Island (South Australia). Should a customer wish to travel on an unsealed road that is greater than twelve kilometres in length to access a recognised campground special permission can be arranged pending road condition, weather and distance. Please contact your local representative to discuss.

 Maui reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.

Should a customer breach the road restriction rules by taking a vehicle on an unsealed road or restricted road maui may impose a fee on the customer of $300 on each occasion that is identified by maui.

Change of Dro-off Destinantions:
If the customer wishes to change the drop-off destination, they must first obtain authorisation from the Reservations or Scheduling departments. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of up to AUD $700 may apply.

Toll and Traffic Notices and Administration Fee:
Maui reserves the right to charge the customer for any speeding, toll way, parking or freedom camping fines. In addition to the costs associated per fine, an administration fee of $60 may be applicable. If a customer continues to exceed a speed of 110km or continues to exceed the posted speed limit, as determined by the customer repeatedly ignoring the warnings of the telematics system fitted into the vehicle, maui may impose a fee on the customer in the amount of $300.

Credit and Debit Card Payments:
The credit or debit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted credit and debit cards are Visa Card, MasterCard and American Express. A non-refundable 2% administration fee will apply to all Visa and MasterCard transactions or 5.3% for American Express. Credit card administration fees also apply to the Liability Deposit and only the customer's credit card is acceptable to use for the purpose of the Liability Deposit and the Credit Card Authority. The credit card administration fee is subject to change.

Credit card Authority:
The customer authorises maui to retain the details of their credit card and to take any action to recover from the credit card the amounts due by the customer pursuant to the maui Rental Agreement Terms and Conditions. These charges including, but not limited to, vehicle cleaning (this includes toilet and waste water tank emptying), speeding, toll way, parking or freedom camping fines, on road assistance, delivery and return of vehicle, late drop off fees, failure to return the vehicle with full diesel or petrol tanks or full LPG bottle (pre-paid fuel and pre-paid gas is included in the Express Return Pack), rental extensions or Exclusions. For security purposes, only the customer's credit card can be used for the Credit Card Authority.

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations

Maui does not accept liability for any such variation or any interest incurred on such amounts.

Booking Amendments
All amendments to bookings are subject to availability of vehicle and/or package. Different rates may apply based on the amendment made.

Multiple Rentals
Should a customer have more than one consecutive rental they can be combined to qualify for longer-term hire discounts off the vehicle rate. Consecutive motorhome hire in South Africa for maui, Britz and KEA; Australia for maui, Britz, KEA and Mighty and in New Zealand for maui, Britz, KEA, United, Alpha and Mighty can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period. For all rentals to qualify each booking needs to be made at the same time. If a customer makes another booking at a later time, the new booking can be combined to qualify if the vehicle collection date/s are within a 3-month period however, the original booking/s will only qualify for a discount if the booking/s are not already travelling or travelled.

Note that 2WD car hire in Australia cannot be combined with any campervan or New Zealand car hire to qualify for longer-term discounts.

Longer-term discounts must be requested at the time of booking.

For vehicles that pick up and drop off on the same day, the less expensive rental day will be free of charge. This also applies to the Excess Reduction Option or the Maui Premium Package if applicable. If multiple hires are within the same country and total days exceed 50 days only the maximum charge applicable to the Liability Reduction Option or the maui Premium Package will apply. In the instance where a maui hire is being combined with a Britz, United, Alpha or Mighty hire and the packages have the maui Premium Package, Britz Bonus Pack, United Inclusive Pack, Alpha Inclusive Pack or The Almighty Pack these components cannot be combined to have a maximum charge applied however the vehicle rate can have a longer-term discount applied if applicable

If multiple hires total more than 100 days these rates and terms do not apply. Requests for quotes/bookings of more than 100 days should be directed first to Reservations. Vehicle security deposits can be transferred between most multiple rentals. This service is available when the booked products are motorhomes and the vehicle security deposit amount is the same.

One Way Rentals :
One-way rentals are available between all Maui branch locations.

  • Minimum rental period for one-way hires is 7 days or greater depending on collection and return location, please refer to matrix below. Shorter hires may be available on application only.
  • Where pick up originates from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart or Adelaide, and return to these ocations .A One way fee of AUD $165 per rental
  • Where pick up originates from Darwin, Broome, Alice Springs or Perth, and return to any location . There is a surcharges of AUD $250 per rental
  • A One way fee of AUD 750 for Broome (for same city collection and return only one fee applies)
  • A One way fee AUD $ for Hobart Pick-up
  • The one-way fee if applicable is charged per hire.
  • The one-way fee is included in the Premium Package.
  • Minimum rental period requirements are subject to change.

Rentals In Broome
An additional remote location fee of AUD $750 applies to all Vehicles picking up or dropping off in Broome (though if pick up and drop off both occur in Broome, only one remote location fee will apply). This is in addition to any One-Way fee if applicable. .

Transfers
The customer's taxi fare from the airport to the Maui branch is refunded upon vehicle collection only. Receipt must be presented for re-imbursement. All other transfers are at the customers own expense.

Hobart Airport Fee
An airport pick-up fee of AUD $30 per hire will apply for hires with pick-up at Hobart airport. This fee is subject to change and new airport charges may arise.

Public Holiday Surcharge
A surcharge of AUD $100 will apply to all rentals picking up or dropping off on ANZAC Day (25 Apr), Boxing Day (26 Dec) and New Year's Day (01 Jan)

  • maui branches are closed on Christmas Day (25th December), New Year's Day (1st January) and Australia Day (26th January).

  • A $100 surcharge will apply to all rentals picking up and/or dropping off on Good Friday (18th April), Easter Monday (21st April), ANZAC Day (25th April) and Boxing Day (26th December).
  • During the period from 1st May to 31st August the Hobart branch will be closed.
  • During the period 1 December to 31 March the Broome, Darwin and Alice Springs branches will be closed.
  • Maui requests that clients collecting or returning their vehicle to be in the office by 1530 hours.

Vehicle Category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Voluntary Downgrade
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

Pets:
Pets or other animals are not permitted inside the rental vehicles, with the exception of guide dogs for visually impaired passengers.

Vehicle Age:
All maui vehicles are up to a maximum of 2 years of age.

Shortening of Rental Period:
If a renter shortens their hire period by more than a week - it may be treated as a cancellation of the whole booking and a re-booking. This depends on when the amendment takes place and how many days of hire are being cancelled. Please ensure you always have travel insurance in place.

Cancellation Policy:

  • If cancelled up to 22 days prior to pick-up No Fee
  • If cancelled from 21 to 7 days prior to pick-up 30% of Gross Rental
  • If cancelled 6 to 1 days prior to pick-up 60% of Gross Rental
  • If cancelled on day of pick up or No-Show 100% of Gross Rental
  • If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever there is no refund available for the unused days.

Booking Amendments
All amendments to bookings are subject to availability of the vehicle and/or package. Different rates may apply based on the amendment made. Amendments prior to the vehicle collection date will be re-calculated at the flex rate applicable on the date of amendment. This applies to changing the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick-up dates and/or changing the pick-up or drop-off location. Where the number of rental days is being extended prior to the vehicle collection date (days are being added on at the end of the rental with no change to the original pick up date), which applied at the time of the original booking, will apply.

Important:
Maui reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
